Exercise Prescription for Children

Some scary statistics: The incidence of childhood obesity has increased since the mid 1970’s, and of these children, many have elevated blood pressure, blood lipids, and plasma insulin.

In general, the same exercise prescription of cardio-respiratory fitness in adult training can be used for children. Muscular strength and endurance of children can be improved with participation in formal weight training. Safety precaution is taken, however, because children are anatomically, physiologically, and psychologically immature. The following guidelines will be taken:

A. Proper lifting techniques, with no breath holding.
B. Stress controlled lifting techniques and ballistic movements will be avoided.
C. We will perform 1 or 2 sets of 8 to 10 different exercises and include major muscle groups.
D. We will limit training session 2 times per week to encourage other activities.
E. No resistance will be applied where the child cannot accomplish at least 8 repetitions.
F. Will not perform exercises to the point of momentary muscle fatigue, due to risk to developing bone and joints.

REMEMBER, THERE ARE NO GYM FEES, NO MEMBERSHIPS AND NO CONTRACTS WITH A New U PERSONAL TRAINING!
